Dear Parents,

 
This is the first of many weekly marching band meetings.  Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year and to the Sahuarita High School Marching Mustang Band.  I look forward to many wonderful things as we get our school year started.  I have been teaching band and orchestra since the fall of 2000 and every one of those years have been here at SUSD.  My family and I live in Sahuarita and work in Sahuarita and I am very proud of our music department and community.
 
Please be prepared this email will be longer than most.

Week at a Glance
Monday – rehearsal 5:45-8:15 on the field, students may stay after if they need to
Tuesday – flags will practice with Max  3:30 – 5:20 (ride the activity bus home or parent pick up)
Wednesday – percussion and flag will practice with Max and Mr. Cervenka 2:45-5:20 (same ride options as above)
Thursday – flags will practice with Max 3:30 – 5:20
Friday – 1st game of the season, wear blue band shirt to school for spirit, pep assembly during school follow game day hand out (Tuesday), Tailgate
 
Monday, August 20th – Open House and parent meeting for travel to San Antonio with boosters TBA
 
Curriculum –
We have already tested on two pieces of music, School Fight Song and the Opener for the show. Grades will be updated during the day Monday and students will have until Thursday at the end of the school day to retake the music test for a better grade. This week during Mustang Power Hour (MPH) students that have tested to be section leaders will  meet on Monday for training followed by anyone needing peer mentor-ship from their section leader onTuesday, and Thursday.
 
Our marching band shoe order should arrive by this Friday for the game (I have tracking), students that ordered schools will receive the shoes prior to dressing for the game. Please make sure your child has a flip folder and lyre for their band instrument, percussion need a black binder, guard please pay for your shoes $35 and a down payment for your uniform $40 to the front office.
 
Parent Help needed:
Please continue to pay for tailgating this week $20. You may bring in cash or check (payable to sahuarita music boosters) and no matter what no one will be turned away on Friday if they have not yet paid. We have two big building projects that are about to begin, one is the coffins for the show and we have four dad’s on the job, thank you Mr. Allen, Mr. Elam, Mr.Ruesch Mr. Walton. Our new trailer is in the design process for all of the build outs it will need, thank you to Mr. Boerner for taking on the design process.  If anyone would like to  join these awesome dad’s for these projects please let me know and I will forward your contact info to them. We have a goal of the coffins ready by September 3rd and the trailer build outs September 28.
 
The following committee’s need members:
Tailgate = planning and preparing the meals for the 5 home games and some off campus events
Uniforms = outfitting the students before and after all performances (seamstress skills not necessary)
Field Crew = set up and tear down of podium, front ensemble, and field coffins at performances, 5 home games, 6 competitions
Music/Marching assistant = if you have a background in an instrument or marching, I would love to have your help for certain rehearsal, LET ME KNOW~
San Antonio travel assistant = I need a parent or two to help organize all of the travel details for our travel to San Antonio (need computer skills)
